about

Trans Am’s most recent album, TA, was released this past spring. It featured the band’s most progressive use of studio technology. Now, after extensive touring across North America, the band has lent the master tapes to some of their favorite artists in electronic music, resulting in Extremixxx, a 6 track EPin which TA’s abusive studio wizardry is exploited further.

The New Order-esque drive of “Cold War” is interpreted by A Grape Dope as a dark electro anthem and again by Trans Am sound engineer Jonathan K in a more upbeat spirit (think Grand Funk meets Grandmaster Flash). Underground hip-hop faves Dabrye turn “Infinite Wavelength” into a late-night bass jam to shake your walls and wake up the neighbors. Finally TA’s most controversial tune, “Different Kind of Love”, is reworked in two markedly different styles by turntable icon Dan the Automator and by Atlantabased hip hop stylist Prefuse 73, who presents two versions of his sultry late-summer mix that is sure to get many a-booty out on the dance floor.

With an eye-catching cover and an all-star cast, Extremixxx captures the emerging sound of the electro underground and makes a fine companion to Trans Am’s most accomplished work to date.
